Journey
Dusty Dixon is a South African country and pop artist recognised for his steady presence in the local country music circuit and his work across both group and solo projects. He was born in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, and grew up in a musically influenced home where early exposure to guitar and harmonica helped shape his interest in performance.
His early career developed through his time with the group Maak ’n Las, where he spent more than a decade touring across South Africa. That period built his foundation as a live performer and introduced him to wider audiences within the country music space. A major turning point came in 2011 when he transitioned into a solo career following the passing of his mentor Zak du Plessis.
As a solo artist, Dusty Dixon released albums such as Elvis Country and Romeo & Juliet, projects that focused on reinterpretations of well-known country and pop material. These recordings highlighted his interpretive style and consistent approach to studio work.
In 2019, he joined the established South African band Touch of Class as lead vocalist, contributing to their album Stille Soldate. This role expanded his presence within the country-pop landscape and added a collaborative chapter to his career.
Dusty Dixon’s work sits within country and pop traditions, shaped by long-term performance experience, studio recordings, and collaborative band involvement across South Africa’s music industry.
